Charlie Cole and his grandson Pete Jarrett travel around outback Australia in a beaten-up ute, finding itinerant work along the way. In each place they befriend locals and become involved in an adventure, culminating in their solving a mystery, crime or local conflict. THE OUTSIDERS was the name of an Australian-German co-production which was made in Australia in 1976. It starred Andrew Keir as Charlie Cole and German actor Sascha Hehn as Pete Jarrett. It also featured other prominent Australian actors including John Jarratt of Wolf Creek fame, Wendy Hughes, Leonard Teale, Ray Barrett, Peter Cummins of Sunday Too Far Away, John Meillon of "Crocodile" Dundee fame, Megan Williams of The Sullivans fame, John Ewart, Judy Morris, Vincent Ball of A Town Like Alice, Jason Donovan's father Terry, Serge Lazaraff of Cash and Company fame, Peta Toppano, and David Gulpilil. The series was shot in English and Sascha Hehn was dubbed by Australian actor Andrew Harwood .

Pete Jarrett leaves his secure job in the city and joins his nomadic grandfather Charlie Cole in his search for freedom.
2. Change of Image
Pete and Charlie become embroiled in a feud and sabotage between two Barossa Valley wineries.
3. Ghost Town
Pete and Charlie spend a night in an old deserted gold mining town, and begin to suspect that they are not alone when they encounter a series of unusual events.
4. Roustabouts
Pete and Charlie work on a sheep station as roustabouts. When the gun shearer takes an immediate dislike to Charlie, it causes trouble with the station owner.
5. Golden Girl
Pete and Charlie take jobs at a seaside resort and become involved with a confidence trickster. Pete finds out that things are not always what they seem.
6. Rip Off
Pete and Charlie arrive at Cripple Creek, a remote outback settlement, and find that the general store has been robbed and its owner bashed. Later, the youths responsible hold them captive.
7. Bad Dream Town
Pete and Charlie become suspects in a murder in the small town of Karee. When Pete is found at the house of a second killing, the local police constable takes some unorthodox action.
8. Bush Boy
Pete and Charlie get caught up in the affairs of a small town when they find a burning shack and a teenage pyromaniac.
9. Sophie's Mob
Pete and Charlie stop at a small pub several kilometres off the beaten track and are greeted by a man lost in the bush, an attempted murder and the peculiar attitudes of locals who feel isolated from the outside world.
10. Charlie Cole Esq.
While passing through Canberra, Pete and Charlie are caught up in political intrigue and shady dealings. When they uncover a plot that will lead to an innocent man's downfall, they have to race against time to stop the corruption.
11. Opal Strike
Pete and Charlie get mixed up in an attempt to steal a prize opal from an eccentric miner in the small town of Baroola Tank.
12. Ambush
When Pete and Charlie assist Chet Murdoch in transporting his wool to the railway, they get involved in a payroll robbery and a set-up for the crime.
13. Last Campaign
The editor of Black Mountain's town newspaper bitterly opposes a wood-chip industry that the Japanese are financing, causing Pete and Charlie to become involved in some local town politics.
