Juan José Namnún Tavárez was born from Namnun Jose and Tavarez Ismaela on the 17th of February of 1979, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He studied Film at the Universidad Autonoma the Santo Domingo (UASD). He graduated cum laude on 2005, defending his thesis about "Migration and Dominican films".
