Midnight Taxi

Regular fare Yakumo gets into Shoko's cab with a woman called Aimi whom he is desperately trying to seduce; after he gets out, Momo and Yuki, who are each celebrating their 30th birthday, get in; Momo gives Yuki a piece of paper with her number on it, but Yuki does something unexpected.

Yuki reveals she is actually 42 and had lied about her age; Momo calms down and the pair becomes closer through a game of lies; listening to them, Shoko starts a countdown to turning 30 using the playing cards she got from Yakumo.

Shoko talks to cafe owner Hirukawa about turning 30 and he suggests having a big cleanout. Yumi and Yota, who were spying on sweet potato seller Naoyuki at the train station, get into Shoko's cab and ask her to follow Naoyuki's truck.

Shoko approaches Naoyuki to buy a sweet potato. Husband Kenichi, who arrived later, persuades Yumi to approach Naoyuki, the father who once abandoned her to start a new family.

Shoko drives her aunt Yayoi and Reika, a popular actress managed by Yayoi, home in her taxi. Two young men carrying bamboo brooms, Takumi and Daisuke, hop into the cab, revealing themselves to be lifeforms from another world.

Shoko is driving two wizards, Takumi and Daisuke. As Daisuke insists on staying in the human world to pursue an absurd dream, Takumi must choose whether to leave without him or stay by his side.

At Gen's café, Shoko and Gen Hirukawa discuss art and dreams; that night, regular fare Yakumo hops into Shoko's taxi, eager for a grown-up party; but in a warehouse district, he comes face-to-face with Aimi and a tough-looking man named Hiroshi.

Shoko impulsively completes an unfinished mural on some shopping street shutters; when a travelling artist, Nao, wakes up and sees it, she's amazed by Shoko's talent; Nao begs Shoko to let her stay over at her place.

Looking back on the past, Shoko realises she didn't want to change so her mother could find her; she is uncertain whether she should change now; her passengers all had their reasons for choosing change; Yuki and Otake reunite at a class reunion.

Kamemura fails to sell the water and loses his job, parting ways with Otake; after returning to Shoko's taxi, he confronts the fact that he hasn't changed; the pair discuss the meaning of change and happiness.

Looking back on the past, Shoko realises she didn't want to change so her mother could find her; she is uncertain whether she should change now; her passengers all had their reasons for choosing change; Yuki and Otake reunite at a class reunion.

Though living with a serious illness, Yuki is happy to have been noticed by Otake; Otake confronts his past as a scammer selling fake healing water; while looking after Yuki, Shoko comes to understand the meanings of change and being seen.

Tsubasa leaves behind a certificate tube in Shoko's taxi, with a note; Shoko and Mei imagine the story behind it; shaken by a passenger's cruel words, Mei is forced to confront her own vulnerability.

On her day off, Shoko accompanies Haruto, a bedridden young man connected to the world through an avatar robot, on an outing at Hirukawa's request; Shoko must confront the reality and discover what this journey means for the three of them.

Shoko returns to see Haruto with a gift, rekindling his desire to help others. She then visits the struggling Mei, before breaking down as her own fears of rejection boil over.

After rescuing Tsubasa from a river, Shoko and Reika unexpectedly confront her past; Shoko's own perspective begins to change.

Shoko talks about the taste of love with Reika and Yayoi. When Reika claims that she has never felt love, Shoko feels a sense of unease. Reika later encounters Yakumo in front of her home. Shoko recalls a memory from her high school days.

Shoko's classmate Hatanaka gets into her taxi; Hatanaka claims that he has killed someone, but it's unclear whether he's serious or joking; eventually, the conversation turns to their high school days, when the two built a brief companionship.

Though she has yet to come to terms with Hatanaka's confession, Shoko meets another passenger; Chihiro's recollections of coffee shops and cream sodas evoke a sense of warmth, but also unease.

The absence of the person she longed to see shakes Chihiro, and makes her vent her feelings onto Shoko; Chihiro's past and present unravel; Shoko thinks about how she should face this.

As her 30th birthday approaches, Shoko is asked what work means to her in a magazine interview; Yakumo and Reika grow closer; one night, a mysterious man named Ishikawa gets into Shoko's taxi with an unusual request and Shoko agrees to help.

Shoko continues her strange drive with Ishikawa, who claims to be from the future; as he opens up about his life, Shoko listens with compassion.

Shoko receives an unexpected request from a married couple, leading her to confront an issue involving Yakumo. As Yakumo slowly opens up about the feelings he has long kept buried, his words resonate deeply with Shoko.

Yakumo, Reika, and Shoko reflect on work, purpose, and the people who matter most; as Yakumo's choice, Reika's dream, and Shoko's uncertainty converge, each begins to question what it takes to move forward and what truly matters.

Reika and Yakumo's relationship is reported by the press and Reika is flamed online; while Yayoi deals with that, she makes Reika move in with Shoko; they think Reika would be depressed, but she's surprisingly laid-back; criticism continues online.

Despite online flaming, Reika insists she's done nothing wrong and receives an unexpected job offer from Gen to act as Shoko's assistant driving Kazuha to her destination.

Kazuha longs to reunite with a person she once shared her life with in the past; Reika runs into someone she used to know.

Reika makes a decision after her relationship with Yakumo became public; Shoko confides in Yayoi about her complicated relationship with her mother.

Shoko's mother, Hazuki, gets into her taxi, forcing the two to have a conversation. When Hazuki talks about her past, Shoko becomes emotional.

Siblings Takumi and Mai get into Shoko's taxi and discuss an ominous plan, forcing Shoko to think about her own relationship with her family as she listens.

Mai crosses a dangerous line after a mental breakdown; Shoko confronts her head-on, but she still has to grapple with the turmoil of her own reunion with her mother.

Shoko spends her birthday with Gen, Yakumo, Reika and Yayoi. She also receives an unexpected package from her mother.
